Building on the great success of the first Best Management Practices seminar the Conservation Foundation held in September of 2008, we will be hosting another seminar on February 18, 2010 in Woodridge, Beyond the Basics: Green Infrastructure for Clean Water. We will be expanding the focus this year to look at both new development and redevelopment opportunities, showcasing individual BMPs, implemented projects at several scales and how important it is to think about these practices in the early stages of project planning. llinois RiverWatch Program Needs Your Participation
The Illinois RiverWatch program offers you the opportunity to become involved in the stewardship of the state’s streams. RiverWatch certified volunteers, or Citizen Scientists, play an important role in helping identify potentially degraded waters and areas that may need better protection. Citizen scientists examine indicators of water quality like stream habitat and the diversity of species such as dragonfly nymphs, beetle larva, midges and snails.

The Canal Corridor Association has been named the local coordinating entity for the development of a comprehensive Management Plan for the I&M Canal National Heritage Corridor in cooperation with the National Park Service. The Plan is required to take into consideration State and local plans and involve residents, local governments and public agencies and private organizations in the Corridor.

The following six committees will meet to begin to set goals, strategies, and tactics to accomplish the vision and mission established within the guiding principles outlined in the initial public meetings. EVERYONE IS INVITED:
Civic Engagement Committee, Conservation/Natural Resources Committee, Education/Interpretation Committee, Heritage Development Committee, Recreation Committee, Tourism/Economic Development Committee.
